The Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) Department in Rensselaer's renowned School of Engineering offers degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. ISE has a rich history of addressing important societal challenges since 1933. Research focuses on core areas of industrial and systems engineering with strengths in optimization, data science, manufacturing systems, supply chain and logistics, and decision support. The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, is seeking applications for the prestigious Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Endowed Chaired Professorship in Industrial and Systems Engineering. We are actively recruiting faculty at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels and we welcome applications for both the Career Development Chair (junior faculty) and the tenured full Chair professor levels.

Building on the department’s impressive history and tradition, we seek faculty who are uncovering knowledge and creating solutions to important societal problems, collaborating across disciplines, and integrating their innovations into classrooms. We value applicants who are interested in the success of their students, their department, and their field, and whose research, teaching, and service complement and enhance one another. These faculty will push the Industrial and Systems Engineering discipline forward and will make it more diverse and inclusive.

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in a discipline related to Industrial or Systems Engineering. The successful candidate is expected to have an outstanding record of scholarship, educational leadership, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as national and international visibility. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an internationally recognized, interdisciplinary program with research and scholarship supported by external grants, to actively contribute to the core graduate and undergraduate teaching mission of ISE and the School, and engage in department, institute, and professional service activities. The position is open to any area of research within the Industrial and Systems Engineering discipline.

Applicants leading cross-cutting research are especially encouraged to apply, as are those whose work is helping to redefine the boundaries of the field of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Endowed Career Development Chair will be considered for candidates in junior ranks (late-stage Assistant or Associate Professors) with a demonstrated record of success and exceptional potential. Endowed Chair will be considered for senior candidates at the full professor level with established record of success in research, teaching, and service.

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range:

  • Assistant Professor: $110,000 - $130,000 per 9-month academic year
  • Associate Professor: $120,000 - $142,000 per 9-month academic year
  • Full Professor $130,000 - $225,000 per 9-month academic year

 Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education, eligibility for chaired funds, and other job-related credentials including rank and discipline. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
